- Vintage Reclaimed Garden Statue of Discobolus on Plinth
- Excellent item with decorative plinth.
- Fantastic mosses and lichens.
- This measures: 56" Tall x 18" Square Base.
- Made from reconstituted stone.
- This sculpture is named Discobolus and was sculpted by an Athenian sculptor named Myron. This sculpture reflects the Athenian society as a whole, and the Athenian government had slowly reformed to a democracy from being an oligarchy. Discobolus reflects democracy in Athens; notice the loose figure that the discus thrower has, yet it is still perfectly balanced in contropostto at the same time. This means that Athens' democracy was loose but still very effective. Myron was an idealist sculptor and you can tell by looking at this sculpture how real and full of life it looks. The discus thrower has defined shoulders and facial features, biceps, rib cage, and veins in his arms in legs showing. This reflects how full of life and emotional Athens society was as they turned to their newly formed democracy. This sculpture also shows how highly Athenians valued arete and strived for excellence in everything they did. The discus thrower is competing in the Ancient Olympic games for only glory and a crown of olive leaves.
- All measurements are approximate.
